Francis Merideth's Brownies

Recipe came from Pat O'Day's recipe vault. Francis Merideth was an older lady from St. Francis parish, and everyone liked these brownies.

margarine

In 2-quart saucepan, bring water, cocoa, and margarine to a boil.

In separate mixing bowl, beat eggs well with soda, buttermilk, and vanilla.

Add to mixing bowl the sugar, flour, salt, and the contents of the saucepan.

Pour into greased and floured jelly roll pan, and bake 350* for 20 minutes.

Frosting can be done in about 5 minutes before brownies are ready to come out. Mix together in sauce pan the margarin, cocoa, milk, powdered sugar, vanilla, and salt. Mix well and add 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans. Pour over brownies when they come out.

Tips

Original recipe called for "oleo," so I've substituted "margarine."

For frosting, it just says "box of powdered sugar," so I'm putting in "1 box of confectioner's sugar." Not sure how much that is.
